Cornell University Reappoints Richard D. Fincher to the faculty in Labor/Employment Law and Workplace Dispute Resolution.

The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has reappointed Richard D. Fincher as a Lecturer in Labor/Employment Law and Dispute Resolution for the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution. He has served on the adjunct faculty since 2002, teaching mediation, arbitration, comparative ADR, and career development.

In 2012, and again in 2014, he was appointed as a “Visiting Scholar in Law and Dispute Resolution,” to the Institute, and taught the entire fall semester.

Since 2010, he has served as the Faculty Advisor and Instructor for the “Engaged Learning Seminar for Labor and Employment Relations in Vietnam.” Each year he leads a credit course with students to visit Vietnam to study employment issues concerning the global garment supply chain.

Richard Fincher is also the Executive Director of the Asia Labor Arbitration Project (ALAP) at Cornell University, which is a global repository of information and research on dispute resolution in mainland China and Southeast Asia. In 2015, he was selected as a US Fulbright Scholar in Labor Law and Dispute Resolution for Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Prior to this appointment, he served as a “Labor Research Scholar” in Vietnam for the United States Agency for International Development.

In 2116, he was appointed as a Visiting Scholar to the Law School of Anhui University in Anhui Province, China. He has also given lectures in dispute resolution at Wuhan University (Wuhan City), Capital University (Beijing), CIIR (Beijing), and Southern China University (Changsha).

The Scheinman Institute at Cornell University is the nation’s first institute exclusively focused on the study and practice of labor and employment dispute resolution. The Institute’s mission is to promote interdisciplinary education, research and training in dispute resolution for students, academics, neutrals and practitioners, thereby “educating the next generation of neutrals and practitioners.
